The bar was loud and dark. There was hardly any fresh air to breath, thanks to the musty cigarettes and cigars many people were smoking. The sounds of yelling.glasses clinking and even the occasional fight breaking out was almost deafening, but that didn't stop the patrons from having a good time.
In the very back of the bar, sat a man and woman lone at a table. They were sitting very close together and from far away, you might have assumed they were lovers or at least old friends catching up. In actuality, what they were doing was not romantic, nor even friendly. It was purely business.
"Ya see," the man said with a thick accent, "you're the best at what you do, and I'm the best at what I do. So the only logical thing to do is team up, work together. Turn a pretty profit."
The woman, a redhead, just stared at him. She wasn't smiling, but she wasn't frowning either. Her face was absolutely void of emotion, unlike the man in front of her. He was smiling, excited and all too confident in himself. His eyes sparkled at the mention of this "profit" that they could make by working together.
"How do you know I won't kill you and take the money?" she asked.
The man was still smiling, "Simple luv. See those blokes over there?" he pointed to the bar where a tall large black man was leaning against the barstool, next to a shorter white man. They both had large guns and knives strapped to their waists, which the redhead could see clearly from where she was sitting. They weren't even trying to hide them. "They're my other "associates" if you will. They make sure nothing happens to me or mine."
She turned her attention from the two men at the bar, and back to the one man in front of her. "Get to the point."
"I want you to use that pretty little... head of yours and work this fella who owes me some money."
"You mean seduce him and then once he trusts me, rob him blind?" she asked and he nodded. "Okay, another question. How do I know you won't kill me if I do this."
At this, he almost looked offended. "I'm a business man. What good would it do me goin' around and killin' off my associates? Sides' there could be other jobs down the line if this one plays out nicely."
She glanced back to the bar where the two men still were leaning with their guns out. "Fine, but I want a fair cut."
"Oh you'll get it luv, you'll get it," he said with a grin.
The chatted some more for a few minutes. Finally he gave her a slip of paper with a name, and location for her "target" and a picture of him. She slipped both into her pocket, not bothering to look them now. They spoke again briefly, before she got up and left the bar.
Once outside, she pulled out the paper and picture from her pocket. The man was hansom, a strong face with scruffy brown hair. Even in the picture, his brown eyes looked like they had seen so much. She wasn't sure how easy this man would be, but she knew at the very least he would be a fun target. She finally read the paper with his name on it. "Ready or not, here I come Malcolm Reynolds."
