PDX Browncoats

The PDX Browncoats are a group of Firefly/Serenity fans in the Portland/Vancouver area. We've been meeting at least once a month since May. We have our monthly shindigs, Serenity parties, and we are planning other fun events including Firefly viewing parties for knitters, viewing parties for non-knitters, Firefly RPG, and movie nights.

If you'd like to get involved, join us at our yahoo group. The next shindig is Sunday, Nov. 6th at Lucky Lab in SE. Newcomers are welcome. All of our events are all-ages, child-friendly, and just plain friendly. Come join us!

Serenity Panel Q&A

Q: For those of you that don't have action figures, if you had an action figure, how would you envision it would look like? What kind of accessories would come with it?

Jewel: "I want my action figure to talk. I want to be able to pull the string and say, 'Shiny!'"
Adam: "We gotta have pull-string toys. Can you imagine? How great would that be?" [pretends to pull string] "I'll be in my bunk."
Morena: "That's my worst nightmare right there."

Paste magazine

[cross-posted in _the_firefly_]

Fellow Browncoats may like to know that the October/November issue of Paste magazine has two things of definite interest. First, in an article about special effects in movies, Loni Peristere is one of three featured effects artists. If you don't know the name, Peristere has worked with Joss on Buffy, Angel, Firefly, and again in Serenity. His part of the article focuses on Serenity, of course, and makes some interesting reading. The other two artists featured are John Richardson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, among many other films) and Mike Johnson (Corpse Bride).

Also, the DVD that comes with the same magazine (each issue comes with a full-length CD and a DVD full of all sorts of different things) includes one of the longer trailers for Serenity.

Nice to see one of my favorite magazines promoting one of my favorite films. *grin*
