1. I hate broadcast TV.For months and months, all I ever heard at work (and on LJ) was Firefly, Firefly, Firefly. As a matter of course, I avoided it. "Anything that popular can't be good," I thought, given this day in age when reality shows rule the networks, and Everybody Loves Raymond wins Academy Awards.
2. I stay away from fads.
Last week, I gave in. Out of sheer boredom, I put all 4 series discs in my Netflix queue, to be immediately followed by Serenity. I figured, "Hey, it's money I'm spending anyway, why not see what the hype is about, and if it really does suck, at least I will know."
I was hooked from the first episode. The characters, the actors, the writing, the sets, the storylines, everything. It's intelligent yet fun, thought-provoking yet brain candy.
I just finished "Objects In Space," and Serenity should be here in a few days. I can't wait.
So, to Joss Whedon, the cast and crew, the writers, and most of all to YOU, the fandom -- my apologies for slamming what you so deservedly held dear.
Next time, I'll make that leap of faith and not come in late (as usual). Until then...
..."I'll be in my bunk."
